Charlotte’s Return of Red Bridge Results

[read_time]

This past weekend, the Amateur Players Tour – Charlotte Played Red Bridge Golf Course in Midland North Carolina.

Members may recall Red Bridge was originally part of two-day event. As the greens at the time had not been in playing condition. With an abundance of TLC, the greens are well on their way to a full recovery.

Division 5 saw three players within three shots of the lead after the front 9. Three players left standing, Vince Johnson (44-47-91) would find the back 9 a little more of a challenge and come up a shot short of being in the playoff. Keith Gibson (43-47-90) was the early clubhouse leader. Cal Rogers (46-44-90) was able to close the 3 shot deficit on the back 9 to force a playoff.  Only needing one hole to get the job done, Cal Rogers wins the playoff with a par on the first hole.

Division 4 also three players establish themselves early. Rondal Gibson (44-43-87) played consistent al day but found himself 5 shots behind the leader at the turn. The deficit proved to great to overcome and settled for third. Sean May (41-45-86) had all eyes on the leader board as he was in the last group of D4 and had a chance to catch the clubhouse leader but would settle for second place. Jerry York (39-45-84) blistered the front 9 to build a comfortable lead heading into the back 9. That lead would prove important as the back 9 proved to be a test for Jerry. He was able to save a couple shots with clutch putts to secure his first APT win.

Division 3 paid the top three positions. Nick Adams (39-45-84) would find himself atop the leader board most of the day. Nick stumbled early on the back 9 opening the door for the other players and would finish tied for second but losing on the scorecard playoff for third place money. Doug Stowers (41-43-84) played consistent over all but bookend doubles on the back 9 would knock Doug out of contention but was able to win the scorecard playoff for second. Recently promoted Danny Stein (40-40-80) kept his wits as he found himself near the top of the leaderboard. With back-to-back doubles bookended by birdies early in the back nine would cruise to a 4 shot victory.

Division 2 saw players shooting in the 70’s for half of the field. 5 players found themselves in a battle for 3 APT gift cards. Anthony Mullis (38-39-77), with course knowledge, played well all day but found himself one shout out of the money. Justin Willis (36-40-76) played impressive golf on the front nine. Like others, the back proved more difficult. Justin would lose on the scorecard playoff for third place money. Randy Quis (39-37-76), found himself in contention after his promotion to D2. Randy would win the scorecard playoff for third place money. Tom Cone (35-39-74) found himself near the top of the leaderboard after the opening 9. Tom was unable to navigate the dangerous 10th hole but kept it together for a solo second place finish. Michael Edwards (34-39-73) played impressive all day. Michael earned his first APT victory with only 4 bogies on the card, offset by an eagle and a birdie was the player to beat.

Division 1 turned into a contest for second place. Brian Parker (36-36-72) found himself in scorecard playoff with Mark Ballew (37-35-72). A birdie on 18 by Mark would prove the winning score one the scorecard playoff for second place. The day belonged to multiple APT winner Scott Patnode (32-36-68). Scott scorched the front 9 with 4 birdies, 5 overall on the day and only a single bogie. Scott’s impressive play earned him his third win on tour.
