Champions Run Golf Tournament Results

[read_time]

Champions Run was the host course for our 8th tournament of the season.  Players were treated to fantastic weather for June with temperatures in the 80s with sunny skies and a light wind.  You could not ask for more!  84 players competed on Saturday for Visa gift cards and a trophy for the winner in each division.

In Division One, the competition was fierce and was decided on the 18th green.  Scoring was tight after the outward nine with Hayden Elder making the turn at +1 37 and held a one-stroke lead over Dakota Woodcock, Neil Master, Justin Lee and Robert Sain. After a sub-standard front nine, Tennessee East Chapter’s Tim Saunders made a charge on the back nine, making three birdies and taking a one-stroke lead heading to the 17th hole.  An untimely bogey by Saunders on the par 3 17th coupled with a closing birdie by Elder on the par 5 18th secured the victory by Elder.

In Division Two, Cary Anderson captured his second victory of the season with a one-under round of 71 to win by four strokes over John Bradshaw, who takes 2nd place with a +3 75.  Mike Driscoll and Craig Ketelsen finish in a 4th place tie with rounds of +4 76.

In Division Three, another tight competition as 5 players were tied late in the round, possibly setting an epic playoff.  The last couple of holes trimmed the players tied to three as Jackson Garrett, Terence Harris and Lowe Prescott all finished at 78 +6.  The winner was quickly decided on the first hole, the 10th, with a par by Garrett.

In Division Four, it came down to the back nine to determine a winner.  Through nine holes, 1st timer Jake Bush and recently-promoted Chris Tomlinson played splendidly and were tied after posting 3-over 39.  Tomlinson was able to make one birdie on his inward nine, but finished with 13-over 85 to finishing in a 2nd place tie.  After holding the lead through 15 holes, Bush also placed 2nd, finished 4-over on the final two holes.  John Kelsey posted consistent nines of 42-43 to also grab a piece of 2nd place.  In the end, John Mangels back-nine 40 vaulted him to 1st place and finished with an 83 to win by two strokes.

In Division Five, Basil Hall opened with a 7-over 43 to take one-stroke lead over Matthew Lacheta through the front nine.  Once again, the back nine was pivotal.  Hall finished his round with a 19-over total for 91 to capture solo 3rd place.  Andy Morris, who did not show his best on his first nine holes, finished with a closing birdie on 18th and finish with 18-over 90 to win second place.  John Marshall, who was 3 strokes back at the turn, saved his best for last; posting 5-over 41 to finish at 15-over 87 to win 1st place.

In the Senior Net competition, Lowe Prescott was able to capture 1st place in a scorecard playoff over Cary Anderson.  Prescott posted 3-under NET 33 on his last 9 holes to best Anderson by two.  John Marshall finished with a closing NET bogey to finish at 2-under NET 70 to take 3rd place.
