Bulle Rock GC, a fun, challenging Pete Dye designed golf course hosted our season opening Players Tour-Philly Metro stroke play event. It was a pristine day for golf with the wind picking up on the back 9 to add another challenge to a course with 6” rough and plenty of Pete Dye’s usual tricks. But the players were up for the challenge.

In Division 1, George Steinmetz lead the way early on the front nine with a three birdie stretch on holes 2 through 4 on his way to five birdies but the day was won by Paul Hess(40-36) who struggled to find his rhythm on the first 5 holes but gritted his way through it with sterling bunker play. He found his footing on hole 6 and would go on to shoot an even par 36 on the back nine into a strong wind. Jeffery Harris(40-37) took second on the strength of two birdies in what was a very competitive D1 tournament with 5 players within 3 strokes of the winner.

Christopher Denz(39-39) from the Virginia Capital Tour cruised to a four shot victory with a solid 78. It wasn’t as easy as it looked as Pete Dye got his shots in but Denz rose to the challenge and carded an impressive 4 birdies to take home the win. Vincent Fry opened with a front nine 39 on his way to carding an 82 for second place.

Division three was a battle all day with a lot of players taking their turn near the top of the leaderboard all day. Ed Gilbert (45-37) held on and stayed in touch with leaders on the front and then unfurled a superb 37 to take the win. Pete Farina opened with a 37 and closed with a 45 to

take second. John Higgins(43-40) closed out the order of finish in third with a very d steady round.

Dave Neder(44-43) staked his ground in Division 4 with a nice round of 87. He has started off the 2021 season with two rounds of excellent golf and looks like a force to be reckoned with all season. Maurice Murphy from the Virgina tour opened with a solid 43 and finished the day at 89 for second place. John Eastlack(46-45) took third from Andrew Repetto on a match of cards.

Division 5 was won by Brain Bulicki(44-49) who opened with a solid 44 before hanging on down the twitch into the treacherous wind. It was an exciting start on the road to Pinehurst with a lot of great golf played.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Look forward to seeing you on May 10th at White Manor Country Club.
