2023 Los Serranos Golf Tournament Results

The venerable Los Serranos CC was once again the venue for the calendar year opener Super Bowl Tournament, and the 2023 edition did not disappoint. Played on the long unique par 74 South Course, players saw midseason greens conditions, great weather, huge payouts and si, and great fun.

Division 1: Last year’s APT SoCal D1 Player of the Year Jonathan Minkoff got his regular season started off right, with a smooth 2 under 72 with 5 birdies. It wasn’t easy, though- Blake Keesey kept him company on the leaderboard all day, also collecting 5 birdies in his even-par 74 but a double bogey on the 9th hole proved to be the two shot margin. Mr. Minkoff collected a $200 Visa Gift Card and the faux-Lombardi Trophy for his win!

Division 2: Make it three in a row for Hunter Thain, this time over a contested field of 11. Darren Lewis got out hot firing a 1 under 36 on the front. Things changed quickly though- with 4 to 6 holes remaining in the round for the division, there were EIGHT players within 3 shots of the lead. After it all sorted out, Hunter was the MVP with an 81, claiming a $310 Visa Gift Card and the trophy! Twon Fullman took 2nd on USGA tiebreaker (back 9 score) after he and Aaron Alvarado tied on 82 for a $130 Visa Gift Card.

Division 3: Scott Christensen is usually pretty good about estimating his game on any given day, and he was very upbeat about his chances. After a lovely 83, including a very solid 3 over 40 on the front, he dusted the field by 5 and claimed the $250 Visa Gift Card and Lombardi Trophy! Brandon Geier ended up a comfortable 2nd with an 88, finishing the last 8 holes with 4 pars and 4 bogeys. Scott also took down an additional $180 in our optional Senior Net side game, new this year based on your APT handicap!

Division 4: While the field was short, the match was tight as Dave Davidson and 2022 D4 SoCal POTY Milton Gray. Milton was up 1 after an excellent birdie 2 on the 9th, both posting excellent front 9’s with 44 and 45. However, Dave was able to pick up 4 strokes on the first two holes of the back 9, putting him 3 clear with 7 to play. The pair traded blows from there in and Dave signed for an 89, good for a W, an $80 Visa Gift Card, and the trophy!

Division 5: Tyler Ruzi tried to make it two in a row, Tommy Weatherby also felt confident on the day. Both put up excellent scores with Tommy at 98 and Tyler at 102 on the long and lush Los Serranos CC. Tyler had a 2up lead at the turn but couldn’t hang on- Tommy left with an $80 Visa Gift Card and the trophy!
