Shoal Creek Golf Club Tournament Results

[read_time]

We were finally blessed with some great golfing weather this weekend!  The sun was shining, we had just enough of a breeze to keep it cool, and a high of 78 made it great for golf!  The greens were pure and the scoring reflected that!

In division 1 Garrett Wilson started off like he was playing blindfolded.  And after pulling a tee shot left on hole 4, he was required to play 2 balls in and bring the decision of whether that ball was OB or in the Hazard to the committee after the round.  And then magically, he became a new golfer, shooting 4 under par on the remaining 14 holes.  But, Kory Glasgow, Tyler Hartstock, and Alex Fortuna were playing solid golf all day, and it was a battle to the end.  Before the ruling, Garrett was 1 shot ahead finishing with a 73, Kory with a solid 74, Tyler at 75 and Alex at 76.  When it came time for a ruling, Garrett found out that Jake had actually found his ball about 4” out of bounds in a back yard helping another play look for a ball, and on Garrett’s second ball score, his total dropped to 76, and Kory Glasgow takes home his first win on the APT with some solid golf!

Division 2 was another brawl, with Rob Spriggel, Tyler Reynolds, and Brian Taylor battling it out all day.  But Spriggel held strong, and played his best round of the year shooting a 2 over par 73, while Tyler Reynolds was only one shot back and Brian Taylor finished with a 75.

We thought we might see a playoff in Division 3 as well!  Todd Feuerhaken from St Louis was the early leader in the clubhouse with a 9 over par 80, and Brian Lunt needing a par on 18.  But Allen Strasbaugh was still on the course also, and was sitting at 7 over par with the difficult par 3 17th over the hazard and long par 4 18th left to play.  Lunt carded a bogey on 18, leaving Todd to wait to see what Allen could do on the last 2 holes.  And Allen answered the call, made 2 solid pars, and walked with his first win in D3!

Darren Fichtner looked like the favorite in D4 after the first 5 holes, and finished strong on the front 9 shooting a 39, giving him a 4 stroke lead at the turn.  But Dave Lapine and first timer Chris Stewart were right in there too.  Darren stumbled on hole 16 with an untimely bogey, but still had a 4 stroke lead over Lapine and Stewart.  A par on 17 helped give him some breathing room, and he was able to hold on for an 80 and a 2 stroke win over Lapine and Stewart.

In the words of Rocky Metcalfe, “Brandon didn’t miss a single freaking fairway today!”  And that about summed up D5.  Brandon Love didn’t suffer from any hazards or lost balls off the tee today, and it made all the difference.  He took a comfortable win with a 15 over par 86, besting Alan Parker by 6 strokes.

Next weekend we’ll be in St. Louis for the Pub Links Championship at AnnBriar, then up to Mozingo Lake!  Still spots left, so get signed up for Mozingo!
