The St. Louis chapter kicked off its 6th season with its largest turnout ever, as 171 players converged on the Jack Nicklaus designed Stonewolf Golf Club in Fairview Heights, IL.  The Universal Retirement St. Louis Season Kickoff would live up to all the hype, with over $5,000 paid out in tournament prizes via gift cards, with players also winning almost $4,000 in skins.  Each division was competitive, as the winds picked up and made the golf course extremely challenging for the season-opening event.

In Division 1, Alex Huber played a steady round, firing a 3-over par 75 in a round that featured two birdies, and was good enough to earn a 3 shot victory over Jake Hawes and 2023 Division 1 Player of the Year Ryan Eckelcamp, who started the 2024 campaign with a T2 finish.  Scott Prosser and Dylan Davidson rounded out the money with solid rounds of 79 to finish T4.  On the senior side, 2023 Sr. Player of the Year John Todd started the 2024 season off with a victory, firing a 86 to hold off Billy Davis by one shot.

In Division 2, Clayton Pilger played steady all day to hold off a stacked field, earning a one-shot victory with a 79.  David Adams finished just one-shot out with an 8-over par 80 for solo 2nd place honors, and Josh DeJarnette followed up his great play at The Lone-Star Shootout in Horseshoe Bay, TX with an 81, to finish in solo 3rdJack Neenan (82) finished in solo 4th, while Tim Mayer and Bill Stuart rounded out the money with 84’s to finish T5.   On the senior side, Dave Adams emerged victorious with an 8-over par 80 that was 5-shots clear of Kevin Giese, who finished solo 2nd with a round of 85.  Greg Garrett and Michael Konuch rounded out the money with rounds of 86.

In Division 3, Indianapolis’ John Blackburn earned his first Division 3 victory after being promoted from Division 4 after last year’s APT Collegiate Series at Purdue, solidifying his steady improvement over the last season.  His 81 that featured steady play in tough conditions bested Zach Brda by one stroke, who finished in solo 2nd place.  Dave Baxmeyer started the 2024 season with a solid round of 83 to earn solo 3rd place honors.  Brian Chilton and Dallas Cook earned T4 honors with rounds of 84, while Rob Ladage finished in 6th place with an 87 in the 47-player division.  Andy Cherry finished 7th with an 89, while James Outland and Daniel Happel rounded out the money with rounds of 90.  On the senior side, John Blackburn completed the “Double-Dip” to win both the open and senior sides, besting Dave Baxmeyer by 2 shots.  Brian Chilton finished in 3rd place, while Daniel Happel rounded out the money in 4th place with a score of 90.

In Division 4, Paul Wilson struck lightning in a bottle, getting hot and birdieing 16,17 and 18 on his way to shooting an 84 and earning a 5-shot victory over APT Veteran Mike Scalera, who finished in 2nd place with an 89.  There was a 4-way tie for 3rd between David King, Landon Mayer (no prize money), Brad Sayre, and Iowa’s Bob Witt with rounds of 90.    On the senior side, Mike Scalera emerged victorious by one-stroke over David King, Brad Sayre, and Bob Witt

In Division 5, Josh Burnett joined the winner’s circle to start the 2024 campaign with an impressive 92 to earn a 1-shot victory over Christopher Shaw.  Third place was split between Tony Brose and Clinton Malter, who came in with rounds of 95 just 3 shots back.  Jesse Cook rounded out the money in 5th place with a 97.  On the senior side, Tony Brose kicked off 2024 with a win, shooting a 95 to earn a 5-shot win over Kevin Brown and Chris Brockmeyer, who rounded out the money with rounds of 100 to finish T2.
