2024 Edisto Plantation Golf Tournament Results

Excitement filled the air on Saturday as 59 golfers competed at the Plantation Course at Edisto as a part of the Charleston Amateur Players Tour. The day of golf was highlighted by a hole in one by Jason Upright on the par-three 3rd hole.

Spots for the tournament filled up quickly, and eventually sold out ahead of the tournament. The golfers enjoyed the beautiful layout on scenic Edisto Island. The sole golf course on the island enjoys an interesting history dating back to its origin in 1973. Originally known as ‘Oristo’ and later as ‘The Edisto Beach Golf Club’, the course takes pride in its new name ‘The Plantation Course at Edisto’.

The Charleston Amateur Players Tour travels the Lowcountry of South Carolina offering golfers of all skill levels a chance to compete in one of ten different divisions. The tour is designed, “by the players, for the players” and lives up to its motto with each tournament.

Saturday, the competitors battled for over $3,500 in cash and VISA gift card prizes. Here’s a breakdown of the results by each division:

Division 1 – Extra golf was needed in Division 1 on Saturday, as Charles Hartley and Thomas Ownes found themselves tied after both golfers shot 78. Hartley emerged victorious in the playoff to secure the top spot. Hartley’s round was highlighted by two birdies as he played each nine in 39 shots.

Ryan Bakken finished in third place, just one shot behind the top two finishers. Bakken played his final six holes in one over par to make a charge up the leaderboard. Nicholas Politis finished fourth with a round of 81 on the par-70 golf course.

Marcus Maddox rounded out the top-five with a score of 85.

Senior Division 1 – A playoff was also needed to separate Charles Hartley and Thomas Owens as both posted rounds of 78. Hartley also prevailed in the playoff in Senior Division 1 on Saturday to claim the top spot. Owens played his final 12 holes in two over par to reach the playoff.

Division 2 – Five golfers were within two shots of the lead when the smoke settled in Division 2 on Saturday. Denver Hubert took the top honors with a round of 79, edging a group of four golfers who shot 80.

Carig Thigpen, Kevin Lyles, Chuck Bell, and Charles Nasworthy tied for the runner-up position with rounds of ten over par. Lyles made two birdies on the round, including one on the back nine to shoot 38.
