The Houston APT tour survived The Wilderness on Saturday, May 13th! Houston area golfers took on The Wilderness at Lake Jackson and we crowned a couple new division winners and few repeat winners. Thankfully, the thunderstorms held out and we were able to get all rounds completed with only a few intermittent showers on the back 9. The course was in great shape and recovered nicely from heavy rains earlier in the week where they had to pump out over 4 million gallons of water from the lakes on the course. Surprisingly, we were able play the ball down and were 90 degrees with carts.
Division 1 crowned a new Houston APT member with their first win of the season. Philip Littlefield (77) was a par machine starting off with 8 straight pars and 13 pars overall. Joey Savoy (82) played a good round and had it not been for two holes he would have been in the hunt for first.
Division 2 was up for grabs at the turn, as only one shot separated all players. Jason McCain (79) claimed his second win of the season with a solid back 9 performance. Darien Duhon (83), Troy White (83) and Jason Hawthorne (83) all tied for second place.
Division 3 came down to the last two holes. Pat Ryan (82) secured his second win of the season by scrambling with up and down pars on the last two holes. Steven Lord (86) finished in second and is proving to be a top contender in D3. Third place went to Britten Parish (87) as he had one of the best back 9 scores of the entire field.
Division 4 was a tightly contested race with Tony Rose (85) coming out on top by one stroke when he parred the long par 4 finishing hole to secure his second 1st place finish of the season. Charles Ackerman (86) and Javier Quintero (86) tied for second place.
Division 5 player Todd Nobles (79) had an exceptional day! He had only been in the 80’s two times in 18+ APT rounds and to shoot a score in the 70’s is exciting for any player! Todd carded 4 birdies overall with 3 on the back 9 to complete his first win of the season. Congrats on a great round! Division 5 was rounded out by Carolina Ackerman (91) finishing second and Rafael Nolasco (95) finishing in third place.
The Senior Net Division was again a tightly contested race. Pat Ryan took 1st place at +1, second place went to John Sparks at +2 and third place was a tie between Troy White and Tony Rose at +3
