2023 Las Vegas Open Tournament Results

[read_time]

After a heavy rain came through Saturday in the Las Vegas Valley we awoke to crisp sunshine on Sunday morning as the Las Vegas Amateur Players Tour (APT) hosted the Las Vegas Open Championship at a beautiful Red Rock Country Club – Arroyo Golf Course. The greens were fast, and the course staff were excellent in helping make sure our players had a great time. It was a cold sunny day at Arroyo Golf Club for the Las Vegas Open Championship.

Division 1

Playing in only his second APT event Josh Crossen [74] held off second place finisher Autin McBride [77] by three shots. Josh is the “real deal” player who is extremely consistent and makes very few mistakes. This is two wins after two starts on the APT tour and I am sure Josh will be hoisting many more trophies this year. Congratulations Josh on this second win on Tour.

Division 2

After finishing tied for second in his last tournament, Mark Smith [77] came out this time to win by firing some great shots, and at one point was under par for the round. He held off a mid-round charge by Ben May [79] who finished second after carded an eagle and birdie on his back nine to finish two shots back.    Division 2 is stacked this year but Mark has his sights set on several more wins in 2023. Congratulations Mark for this impressive win.

Division 3

Kevin Piestch [84] is not new to amateur golf and he finally got his FIRST WIN. He played solid all day against Mark Walker [89] who came second at the end. It was quite a battle between these two players who started from hole #16. Mark was trying to catch Kevin after only down 2 strokes after the first 9 holes, but Kevin was playing well maintaining his lead until the end. Congratulation on your first WIN, Kevin!!!

Division 4

Can we say PLAY-OFF.  Levi Lynch and Joey Filippi both finished at [90] after 18 holes and settled the championship on the first extra hole on hole #10 as Levi came out on top over Joey who is reigning 2022 player of the year. Brennen Wedewer [92], the last tournament champion (Boulder City Open), finished third. This is Levi’s first win on the APT tour. Congratulation Levi!!!

Division 5

Only having played in a handful of APT tournaments, Chase Burbank [93] played very steady to the end and overtook Matt Walden [96] to secure his first ever win on the APT tour. This high school senior who just started playing golf a little over a year ago is getting great instruction from our tour sponsor Joe Brown from Empower Golf. Chase has also made his high school golf team and is looking to help them to many championships this year. Congratulations Chase on this win and many more to come!!!

 Senior Net Division (Age 50+)

This seems to be common in 2023 – Division winner also takes Senior Net. Division 2 champion, Mark Smith [73], did it this time as he held off second place finisher, Eric Andrachik [76], by 3 strokes for securing the “Senior Net/Double Dip” Championship. Hendra Wijaya [77] finished third. Congratulations Mark on both Championships.

Congratulations to all the  Champions of the Las Vegas Open.

We also would like to thank the staff at Arroyo Golf Course at Red Rock Country Club for helping host our event for the players.

Next APT Las Vegas tournament is MESQUITE CHALLENGE which will be at the beautiful Falcon Ridge GC in Mesquite on Sunday, March 19th. We currently have 50 players signed up and only have 2 spots left so get signed up. See everyone on  tour!!!
