2023 Gateway National Golf Tournament Results

The Amateur Players Tour St. Louis visited Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Illinois for the Father’s Day Skip Day event. Architect Keith Foster designed Gateway to be a Scottish style links course. Gateway plays host to many collegiate and qualifier events. The championship par 71 links course tips out at almost 7,200 yards and delivers a unique experience for golfers of all skill levels. Gateway is the #1 public golf course in the St. Louis Metro area and the only course with bentgrass fairways.  

In Division 1, all eyes were on Nate McCutcheon after his five under-par performance at the APT PubLinks Championship. McCutcheon tied for 3rd with Robert Jackson of St. Louis, Missouri shooting even par 71 on the day. Weston Horberg had a great round shooting one under-par 70. Ryan Eckelkamp of Washington, Missouri clinched the win with an eagle on the 18th hole of play on the 520-yard par 5. John Todd chalked up another win in the Division 1 Senior competition shooting one over-par 72 on the day.  

In Division 2, National Player of the Year points leader, Mike Lingenfelter, found himself back at the top of the leaderboard. Lingenfelter tied for third with Tom Estopare of Columbia, Illinois shooting four over-par 75. Lingenfelter was also crowed the Division 2 Senior champion. Austin Tapella took 2nd place shooting two over-par 73. Marco Tallerico earned his second win of the 2023 season shooting even par 71 on the day.  

In Division 3, it was a race to the 18th hole. Simay Souvannarath, Haris Habibovic, and Kevin Zawodniak all tied for 2nd shooting 10 over-par 81 on the day. The star of the show was Chris Price of Waterloo, Illinois. Price knew he had to make something happen on the final hole of play. Price answered the call and carded his only birdie of the round to earn him a win in Division 3 and the Division 3 Senior competition.  

In Division 4, Steven (Papa Middy) Middendorf earned himself a top three finish at the links style course shooting fourteen over-par 85. Rick Johnson continues his hot streak. Johnson shot twelve over-par 83 to take home a second-place finish. Mike Moynihan of St. Louis, Missouri earned his first win on tour. Moynihan shot ten over-par 81 to be crowned Division 4 and Division 4 Senior Champion.  

In Division 5, APT PubLinks Champion Keith St. Pierre chalked up a 4th place finish shooting 23 over-par 94.  Jim Seibert and Mark Galentine tied for 2nd place shooting 22 over-par 93 on the day. Chad Johnson of Owaneco, Illinois earned his second victory of the 2023 season shooting 19 over-par 90. Seibert was also crowned the Division 5 Senior champion after a scorecard playoff.  

Next stop on tour is the Loading Dock Summer Stableford event at the Orchards Golf Club.
