2023 Charlotte National Golf Tournament Results

[read_time]

A normal hot and humid afternoon greeted the players at the Charlotte National Golf Club. All players were able to tee off and get started on their rounds when the sky turned gray and with severe weather in the area a delay was in order.  For the safety of all players, we called all players off the course and had them return to the clubhouse to wait out the weather as it passed thru.  The players endured an approximate 1 hour delay until they returned to the course to complete their rounds.  Normally, breaks in the action usually take a toll on the players, however 2 players experienced a resurgence and turned their rounds around and played very well and claimed victories.

In Division 1, After narrowly missing out at Pine Island CC,  Brian McGowan(CLT) made amends and played the best down the stretch to claim the victory shooting 75 (+3).  Tim Barto (CLT) with a birdie on the 18th got within 1 stroke shooting 76 (+4).
Congrats Brian!!

In Division 2, with 19 players in the field it was Jason Breedlove (CLT) claiming his first victory of the season.  Jason’s round of 77 (+5) was 2 better than second place Ken Fishback who shot 79 (+7).  We had a 3-way tied for 3rd with Sam Belcher (CLT), Corey Abbott (CLT) and Tim Dupree (CLT) all shooting 80 (+8)
On the Senior side, just like the open side, Sam Belcher was the winner with his score of 80 (+8) with Travis Wartluft claiming 2nd shooting 81 (+9)
Congrats Jason and Sam!!!

In Division 3, another large field of 24 players battled it out. Returning to the victory circle was Dan Ahlers (CLT) claiming his second APT victory for 2023 with a score of 79 (+7).  Second place honors go to Jake Currie (CLT) with a score of 80 (+8).  These guys knew exactly where they stood against each other due to the fact that they were riding together all day long.  We had a Tie for 3rd place with Joe Cannatti (CLT) and Richard Massey (CLT) each shooting 81 (+9)
On the Senior side, it was a Tie for 1st with Joe Cannatti and Richard Massey sharing the top spot with scores of 81.  In Third place it was Cliff Morgan taking 3rd with a score of 83 (+11).
Congrats Dan, Joe and Richard on your victories!!!

In Division 4 a field of 13 golfers battled it out. Vic Lawrence claims his first victory in 2023.  Vic needed the rain delay as he got off to a slow start.  Vic was 5 over par early and then settled himself on a course that he knows very well.  His final total of 81 (+9) was 1 better Fred Carvahlo who got off to a start that was as hot as the weather.  With an unfortunate double bogie on 18 and a final total of 82 (+10) resulted in the second place finish.  Dan Rossi (CLT) and Jonathon Gladden finished in a tied for 3rd with matching 85s (+13).
On the Senior Side, it was a true Double Dip as Vic took home the top honors as well.
Congrats Vic on your double dip!!!

In Division 5 we had a small field of 7 on this day.    Patricio Lopez (CLT) shoots a great round of 86 (+14) to claim the victory.  Doug Willie shoots 88 (+16) to finish in second.
On the Senior Side, Patricio also claims the victory to make it a true double dip.
Congrats Patricio on your Double Dip!!!
