2023 Arnie’s Revenge Golf Tournament

The 2023 started out with a bang! We sold out our first event for the Carolina Coast Myrtle Beach Chapter. Thanks to Ryan and his staff at MBN Kings North course. We had originally booked with for 52 players and Ryan was able to increase both times I asked and we ended up with 68 players. We also had players visit from 11 APT Chapters from as far away as Iowa. Thanks to all that came. We knew it was going to be cold but had no idea that while we were setting up the course that it would start snowing. Yes I said snowing in Myrtle Beach. It was cold and then the wind picked up and playing Kings North in the wind makes for a long day. We were able to keep the Pace of Play just under 5 hrs, not to bad considering the weather and conditions. We also had outside play in front of us. We can still do better for sure. The prize fund was solid as well. We paid out a total of $3480 for this event. $1970 in gift cards was in the prize fund and $1510 was in Skins and Pins. We also had a 50/50 drawing and Travis Shively won $192 and Mark Stroupe won the APT Hat and Towel.

Division 1 had 12 players and was quite the battle. John Masotti a newcomer to the APT Tour from the Carolina Triad Tour took the Open Division. John played steady all day. Park Williams from the Carolina Triad Tour were tied at 37 headed to the back 9. John started with back to back birdies on 10/11 to grab a 2 shot lead. Coming off the 15th hole he had a 3 shot lead headed the #16. The 16th played difficult for John and Park and after he putted out on the 16th, the lead was only 2. John was able to make bogey on the famous (Hole of Sand) 18th to win by 1. Park made par on the 18thbut D. avid Gibson made a great birdie to finish tied for 2nd, 1 shot off the lead. David won the playoff on card to take 2nd while Park finished 3rd John received a $170, David received $70. Park was able to win the Senior Division and pocket $80 for the win.

Division 2 had 15 players and paid 3 places. Michael Martin another Carolina Triad Tour member took the crown. He cared a very impressive +6 (78) to win by 3. The day started out great for Michael. He birdied the first hole and didn’t ever give up the lead. When they made the turn he had a 3 shot advantage. The battle was the to see who would finish 2nd 7 players were within 4 shots after the dust settled. Travis Wartluft from the Upstate Tour edged out Warren Rennox and Don Sheads both of the MB Tour by 1 shot, with Warren taking 2nd on scorecard playoff.  Michael received $180 for the win, Travis pocketed $75 and Don received $45.

Division 3 also had 15 players battling for the win. Daniel Henris also from the Carolina Triad Tour took the lead after the opening 9 and never looked back. He carded a +12 (84) to edge out Mark Stroupe from the Upstate Tour by 3 and our very own Shawn Mason by 4. Daniel received $180 for the win, Mark received $75 and Sean received $45.

Division 4 also had 15 players playing and our very own Tyler Hutchens picked up his 2nd win in a row. After the opening 9 there were 6 players within a shot of each other. Tyler was able to record his best 9 of his career on the back 9 (40) to win by 2 over Curtis Faison from Carolina Triad and our very own mark Scott by 2. The crazy man Kip Moore from Atlanta Tour took 4th. Tyler received $180, Curtis $75 and Mark $45.

Division 5 had 11 players and it took a couple extra holes to decide the winner. After the outward 9, Chase Holcombe from MB Chapter held a 1 shot lead over Jason Lawson from the Virginia Capital Chapter. Josh Chambers from MB Chapter and Kevin Ungaretta were 4 back. Things got interesting coming down the stretch. After a triple on his 10th hole, Kevin made 4 pars on way in and after the dust settled Kevin and Jason were all tied up. They headed to #1 for a playoff and Jason came away with the victory. He received $155, Kevin $65. Case took third with Josh rounding out the top 4.
