The Amateur Players Tour Phoenix Season Opener was a fantastic blend of local and out-of-state talent competing at the Legend at Arrowhead in Glendale! With the course just coming out of a very successful overseed and picture-perfect weather for golf, our competitors were treated to a fantastic day on the golf course.
The staff at the Legend was absolutely first class, with Antone, Brian, Andrew, Patricia and the rest of the crew going out of their way repeatedly to make us feel welcome!
Our Division 1 competition was tight down to the wire. Derek Nicholson (Huntsville, AL) shot even par to hold off late charges by Travis Zappia (Phoenix, AZ) and Matt Minder (Decatur, IL) who finished tied at +2.
Last season’s Division 2 Player of the Year, Tony Ham (Mesa, AZ) came out ready to defend his title, firing a 37 on the front and finishing at +5 to edge out Beau Wilmer (Phoenix, AZ) on the last hole in a contest that was much closer than the final scores indicated!
Jason Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ) took home the Division 3 trophy at +9, beating runner up Kurt Simmerman (Boulder, CO) by 3 strokes. Fletcher’s 39 on the front was good enough to hold off a strong back 9 by Simmerman.
Division 4 came down to a sudden death playoff between Reanol Hackworth (Scottsdale, AZ) and Mark Amann (Spanish Fork, UT) who finished tied at +14. Hackworth took home the trophy and Visa Gift Card by winning the first playoff hole!
Newcomer Jordan Murry (Scottsdale, AZ) shot a 94 to win Division 5 by one stroke over Shayne Del Rosario (Apache Junction, AZ) and Dick Czeslawski (Surprise, AZ)
Finally, in a new highly popular contest for our golfers aged 50+ this season, Jason Fletcher (Phoenix, AZ) double dipped and won the Senior Net Game with a +1 to beat Troy Shedeed (Murrieta, CA) and Brian Schwalbe (Paradise Valley, AZ) who finished tied for 2nd.
Overall, our players were paid out $1,150 in Visa Gift Cards and $980 in side games!
Our next tour stop will be at Lookout Mountain on Saturday, November 26th. Straight tee times will begin at 10am!
