2023 Gaston CC Golf Tournament Results

[read_time]

A Chilly morning greeted the 103-player field as they prepared to take on one of the finest venues on our schedule year after year.  In the previous week, Gaston CC had received more than 4 inches of rain which made the course play long.  Along with the chilly temps and the wet conditions, the wind came up with winds in the 20-30 mph range which made the challenge even greater.

In Division 1, We had our largest field ever with 34 players vying for the title.  With 34 players in the division, the top 6 places received payouts.  After 18 holes we had a tie between Brian Parker (CLT) and Daniel Jackson (CLT) who both shot matching 74’s (+2).  As a result, we sent them back to number 1 to begin a sudden death playoff.  It only took 1 hole to crown the champion as Brian hit his second shot to within 3 feet and a closing Eagle to take the victory and the $410 gift card option.  Daniel settled for 2nd and a gift card totaling $205.  We had a 3-way tie for 3rd place with Cody Sundberg (CLT), Tre Lamb (CLT) and Jacob Sigmon (UPS) all shooting 75 (+3) and only missing out of the playoff by 1 shot.  6th place, we had a 4-way tie with George Harris (CLT), Scott Patnode(CLT), Scott Roberts(CLT)  and Seth Hawkins (Triad) all shooting 76 and sharing the 6th place prize.

On the Senior Side, George Harris, Scott Patnode and Scott Roberts shared the Division 1 Senior prize.

Congrats Brian, Scott, George and Scott!!

In Division 2, with 24 players in the field it was Upstate member, Mitch Howze, that came in a claimed the title with a score of 77 (+5).  2nd place went to Chase Brown (CLT) with a score of 78 (+6).  Last week’s winner Tyler Phillips (CLT) kept the momentum going finishing in a tie for 3rd with J Combs (Triad) and Josh Johnston (CLT) all players shooting 79 (+7).

On the Senior Side, it was Mitch Howze making it a true double dip.  2nd place was shared between C Ton (Triad) and Travis Wartluft (CLT) shooting matching 84’s (+12).  By winning both competitions, Mitch walked away with $510 in Visa Gift Cards.

Congrats Mitch on your Double Dip!!!

In Division 3, another large field of 26 players battled it out this Monday. It was a close battle all day long and came down to the final few holes to see who could make pars coming in.  Kirk Tatge (CLT) claimed the victory with a score of 81 (+9).  Second went to Joseph Jones (CLT) with a score of 82 (+10).  Kevin Lepage had his best day of the season thus far with a score of 83 (+11) and claimed 3rd place.  We had a tie for 4th place with Joe Cannatti (CLT) and Freddie Coffey (UPS) both players shooting 85 (+13).

On the Senior side just like the open side, it was Kirk Tatge claiming the victory making it a true double dip and taking home $610 in total prizes for the day.  2nd went to Kevin Lepage and rounding out the top 3 Joe Cannatti and Freddie Coffey who split the 3rd place winnings.
