Legacy on Lake Lanier Golf Club Tournament Results

[read_time]

The Amateur Players Tour – Atlanta was at The Legacy Golf Course on Lake Lanier on July 30TH, 2022, but was forced to call the event due to weather as lightning moved through the area.  Thirty-Six golfers were treated to 9 holes on a beautiful golf course and competed their portion of the over $2000 in visa gift cards and cash from side games.

Division 1 were the first groups off and therefore saw a little more of the course than the later division.  Through nine holes 3 players were tied for the lead.  Division 1 was able to complete 3 holes on the back nine, and that was all Derek Foulke needed to take the victory over Max Dixon and Colin Edwards.  Congratulations to Derek as this marks his second win of the season.

Division 2 saw two people tied atop the leaderboard when the groups were forced off the course, James Davis and Jim Rice.  This meant it would come down to a scorecard playoff for bragging rights, which allowed James Davis to take the win.    James has been hot this season as this was his fourth win, and two out of the last three events.  Keep grinding James.

Division 3 had a few contenders that would have been laying in the weeds heading into the backside of a normal event.  However with the day being shortened to 10 holes for this group, it was only the recently promoted Nick Murphy standing at the top.  Not only was this Nick’s first tournament in Division 3, but it also resulted in his first piece of hardware from the APT as he took the trophy home.  Congratulations to him and also to Hayden Arnold for his second place finish.

Division 4 was able to complete nine holes before the weather removed them from the course.  And after those nine holes two players were tied at the top, perennial favorite Andy Maestas and Elijah Melendez, who had 2 second place finished in his previous 2 tournaments.  Thanks to a scorecard playoff, Elijah was able to take home his first win of the season.  But in true sportsman like bravado, he told Andy that they would settle the true winner at the next even.  Looks like some of our pairing is going to be easy for that one.

Division 5 was our smallest division of the day as it only had 2 players.  Doug Gibbs, who is fresh off of a win at his previous tournament, and Michael McMillian battled it out for nine holes.  In the end Michael was able to claim victory over Doug.  And for his effort not only did he take home his first trophy from the APT he was awarded a $150 visa gift card even though the field was small.

Next up on the Atlanta schedule is a joint event with the Birmingham chapter at the Robert Trent Jones Trail Stop at Grand National Lakes course set for August 6TH. The field is starting to fill up and with a full field we will have over $2,000 in prizes and trophies to hand out.
