At Country Club of the North, we had 40 golfers come to play in our 14th event of the year which was the Ohio Stableford Championship. We played in hot conditions and the scores were even hotter. 3 players had 5 birdies, or more and more than 10 players shot 80 or better on a difficult layout.
In Division 1 Evan Brouwer was the lone participant but still put up an impressive 2 over par 74 with 5 birdies. Evan started a little shaky being 4 over par through 4 holes then proceeded to play the next 14 holes 2 under. Evan’s 74 (39,35) was extremely impressive for his first tournament with the APT.
In Division 2 Matt Beeman lit up the course posting an incredible 7 birdies. Matt started strong birdieing the 1st and 3rd hole and then combated a double bogey with two more birdies at 7 and 8. After an opening 35 Matt would have 3 more birdies on the back along with 4 bogeys to shoot 37 and an even par 72 (54 points). This was Matt’s first victory with the Amateur Players Tour. General Fernbach would also post an impressive 6 birdies. With 3 on the front General went out in 36. After a double bogey on 13 General birdied 15 and 16 to get back to even. General would then come in with 39 on the back for 75 (51 points) and 2nd place. Travis Souders would shoot 77 for 49 points to post 3rd place.
In Division 3 Curtis Knapp started out on fire posting a 1 over 37 on the front with 2 birdies. After another birdie on the back Curtis would come home in 38 for 75 and a winning 51 points. Ray Conley would shoot 83 (42,41) for 43 points for 2nd place after a tie breaker. Rob Shim and Mark Collett would also shoot 83 for 43 points to tie for 3rd after tie breaker.
In Division 4 the scores were extremely low and 3 players were around the lead all day. Robert Lawless opened strong with 38 and the front and then after almost eagleing 11 (but settled for tap in birdie) would finish strong with 42 for 80 and a winning total of 46 points. Chris Hatfield who had a tough first nine shooting 44 would soon catch fire and birdie 11,12, and 13. Chris would then get in the house with 37 for 81 and 45 points for 2nd. Zach Walker who has been winning all over the APT lately shot 83 for 43 points for 3rd.
In Division 5 Brandon Turner who has been around the lead all year long captured a 3rd victory. Brandon came out on fire shooting an impressive 42 on the front and then battled on the back 9 to keep his lead. Brandon would come home in 50 for 92 for a winning total of 34 points. Steve Smith would shoot 46,48 for 94 and 32 points for 2nd.
In the Senior Net optional side game Curtis Knapp posted a remarkable net 65 for a 9 shot/point victory. Bert Bathiany shot a net 74 for 2nd place.
Closest to the Pins went to Rob Shim #2, Matt Beeman #7, Christian Williams #13, and Bert Bathiany #17.
