The World Tour Challenge was held at the famous World Tour Golf Links in Myrtle Beach, SC on May 8th. This event was originally scheduled for Pine Lakes but due to some issues they are having with greens we had to move. Matt Daly was nice enough to get our event moved to World Tour. This was a great way to get a practice round in for the Labor Day Classic. World Tour is one of the course we will be playing.
We had 45 players to begin the day. We started at 7:51 off 1 and 10. Pace of Play was great. The only problem we had was our players making to turn. Still had some outside play to start before we could turn. Brad and all of his staff were amazing. Kim Everett was also there taking pictures for our players.
Andrew Chilon from Charlotte playing in his first event of the season shot an impressive 72 even par to win by 6 over Tim Washburn and Anne Marie Costello. Ann Marie is the first Div. 1 female we have had on our tour. She is a great player for sure!!
Div. 2 was a battle to the end for sure. Travis Warluft made the turn with a 4 stroke lead but that lead got smaller after making a double on #11. Travis Powell made 3 birdies on the inward 9 to go into 18 with a 1 shot lead. With wind behind him he hit is approach shot over the green and had to take a drop and ended up making a double to lose by 1. Travis Warluft played steady and hung in there take the win. Dave Linville playing in his first event since 2020 due to ankle surgery and Lee Dixon finished tied for 3rd at +9.
Daniel Erker made the turn with 2 stroke lead over Phil McNelis. Daniel struggled on his first 3 holes his back 9, giving Phil a chance to close the gap. Daniel birdied his 15th hole to grab a share of the lead. They both made pars on 16,17 and 18. (80). World Tour has 19th hole that we used for the play off. Daniel made par to capture the win. Jack Curry and Rick Kelly finished in a tie for 3rd at (82)
James (Dodd ) Daniel continued his hot streak. He fired a +12 to grab the win over Sean Mason by 1 shot. Chris Huge finished 3rd at +14. Sean came to his 18th hole with a 2 shot lead. Dodd was in clubhouse waiting to see what happened. Sean slipped to 2nd when he made triple on the home hole.
Div. 5, Donald Baggett held the lead most of the day and finished the day at +16. Colin Taylor finished 2nd, 2 strokes back at +18.
