At roughly 3,200 feet elevation Connestee Falls Golf Club host the Amateur Players Tour – Upstate Chapter on Saturday April 14th. With a slight chill in the air, players banter warmed up the atmosphere prior to the round.
Division 5 completed their rounds first and a tight leaderboard had been contested all day. Winning by 2 shots, Bruce Barker (53-45-98) earned the title. Impressive, considering Bruce has only been playing golf for ten months. Three players, Bob Russell (48-52-100), Alex Franklin (50-50-100) and Jace Calhoun (50-50-100) tied for second.
Division 4 also saw a tight leader board all day. Three players saw themselves atop the leader board all day. Larry Lee (42-47-89) and Brian Gregor (42-45-87) sat atop most of the day. Benjamin Wylie (44-42-86) stayed in touch with the leaders all day. Ben steadied his play on the back nine to capture the win over Brian Gregor.
Division 3, not to be outdone by the previous divisions, also witnessed a packed leader board all day. When the final putt finally sank, 18 holes would not be enough for Alex Malsch (41-43-84) and Doug Harris (40-44-84). An on-course playoff settles first place ties. It took 5 extra holes to determine a winner with Doug besting Alex for the win.
Division 1 had a rout with Greg Moore winning by 8 shots. Per Greg’s request, I’ll withhold the scores. Needless to say, a win is a win, even if it isn’t pretty. Congrats Greg!
Division 2 saw a tight leaderboard during the first nine as three players tried to distance themselves from the field. Bobby Ream, Joe Tucker, and Phil Vangeersaelen all made the turn within one shot of each other. Bobby (39-43-82) would stumble a bit on the back nine but managed his game well on a course that played tough all day. Joe Tucker (40-40-80) would take second. Playing solid all day, Phil (39-39-78) take the win. This is Phil’s second win on the year. Rest assured, the handicap committee will be reviewing all available information to see if a promotion is in his future.
Thank you to all the members for making this a great day!
